Professor Oyeronke Olademo was born some 50+years ago into the royal family of Oyedeji, Ilé-Aníyùn compound in Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, as the first born of a middle-class family. Her parents were Late Prince Simeon Oyejara Oyedeji and Madam Rachel Morawo Oyedeji. She attended Ijeru Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso (1969-74); Baptist Girls’ High School, Osogbo 1975-80); Olivet Heights, Oyo (1980-82); and the University of Ilorin (1982-85, 1990-91, 1992-97); for the primary, secondary, higher school certificate and University education respectively.

Her interest in religion dates back to the primary school days. This phenomenon of communicating effectively with the unseen has always been intriguing. She has been privileged to do research in religions for over thirty (30) years, specifically on Yoruba religion and Christianity, among other areas of research interest especially women, religion, culture and society.

Professor Oyeronke Olademo joined the Department of Religions University of Ilorin, Ilorin in 1991 as an Assistant lecturer and rose through the ranks to become the first female Professor in Comparative religious Studies in Nigeria in 2011. She has enjoyed international fellowships and attended several academic conferences locally, nationally and internationally.

In addition, Prof. Olademo has served and continues to serve as External Examiner for some universities at the underground and postgraduate levels. She has assessed many candidates for Professorial positions. She has seventy+ publications comprising books, articles in reputable journals and chapters in books.

Work History

I have continued to teach and research as a Professor in the Department of Religions, University of Ilorin to date.

Professor Oyeronke Olademo served her Nation Youth Service Corps year at the Institute of Ecumenical Education, Enugu, 1985-1986. She joined the Department of Religions, University of Ilorin, Ilorin as an Assistant lecturer in 1990 and has risen through the ranks to become a Professor in 2011, thus; Assistant Lecturer (1990-1993), Lecturer II (by appointment), (1993-1995), Lecturer 1 (1995-1997), Senior Lecturer (1997-2011), Professor (2011-Date). She continues to teach and research as a Professor in the Department of Religions, University of Ilorin to date.
